Why Drink Green Tea

There are millions of people who drink green tea everyday as they believe it is good for them but ask many of them why and we bet they won't be able to answer you.

For those of you who don't know, green tea is made from Camellia sinensis and has undergone very minimal oxidation during processing. Although green tea has become very popular in the UK in recent years it is believed the Chinese have been using it for medicinal purposes for over 4,000 years.

It is now believed that green tea can help with numerous medical conditions, some of which are listed below: -

  • Cancer
  • Rheumatoid arthritis
  • High cholesterol levels
  • Cardiovascular disease
  • Infection
  • Impaired immune function

And so far, the only known side effect of drinking green tea is insomnia, due to the fact that it contains caffeine.

So, why is green tea good for you?

Green tea is rich in catechin polyphenols, particularly epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) which we know is a powerful anti-oxidant. This from what we have discovered can inhibit the growth of cancer cells but it can also kill cancer cells without harming healthy tissue. It has also been proven that green tea can help to lower cholesterol levels, and inhibiting the abnormal formation of blood clots.

Other uses for green tea?

Although we only ever talk about drinking green tea, there are numerous recipes available which explain other things you can do with it which often give the same benefits of drinking it.
